I bought a gong…
… but I had no mallets, so I made some. I’d not held a mallet before, so i just followed my ears, investigating as many different ways of coaxing great sound from it. I play the piano, so it seemed natural to have mallets that put separate frequency ranges in each hand. Being a one gong guy, the challenge was to discover as many of its sounds as i could. This journey has given rise to double ended mallets, and gadgets that bounce and dance across it.
It’s still an education. I still explore new materials, sounds and ways of playing,
I make each mallet to order. My daughter makes the handles for pocket money. Everything made by hand and with love x
